You’re Fired!
- by McCall
I fired someone last week. I prefer to to call it “let go.” The decision was really hard to make, and I felt really guilty about it. Technically this person hadn’t even started work yet (hired a few weeks ago but wasn’t scheduled to start training until next week). I knew that this would possibly part of my responsibilities with new position, I just didn’t realize how soon I would have to do it. After all was said and done I think it was a really good decision.
Here’s a brief synopsis of what happened– I will call this person “Pat” to insure confidentiality. Pat is an extremely timid and awkward person, but I really wanted to offer the job to hopefully build up confidence. Even though the interview was tortuously awkward, Pat qualified for the job based on typing speed so I ignored that Pat has no social skills. I started to realize that things were going wrong when my new hires spouse started to call and bombard me with questions about the job instead of Pat. Then, I needed to get some information to begin the training process and Pat kept blowing me off. To make a long story short, between way too many calls and questions from Pat’s spouse, and Pat continuing to drop the ball to start training, I had to call and say that this job is not going to work out. I lucked out and never had to talk to Pat directly, this was all carried out through e-mails and voice mails back and forth. I hope I don’t have to do that again soon.
Congratulations

I’m so proud of Stephe and the band (A Sweet Bitter Winter), they played their 2nd show ever last night at a battle of the bands that Velour put on and they WON! It was so exciting. This means they will play again Saturday night againt the winners from the other nights. They pretty much rock my socks. Good job guys, and good luck on Saturday.
Awesome Show

Stephe’s band (A Sweet Bitter Winter) had their first show last night. It was so much fun and they did awesome. Our friend Phil Saddler played first and he’s a great musician and really funny. As a special treat he and his crew put together a musical puppet show. It was hilarious!

I was really proud of the band– they’ve been working really hard and it was great that they could share their music with so many people. I was really happy that so many people came– I’m guessing about 80 but that is only a guess.

Thanks to everyone who came, especially Brian, Bobby, the Parks, Spencer, Scotty, Jason, Megan, Laura, and Liz. Thanks to Dean for running the sound. It was great to see everyone. Thank so being so cool and such good friends/family. I’ll keep everyone posted so you come next time.

(If you want to hear some of their music you can check them out on their myspace page)
