Hi, I saw your amazing mac mini server set up. I have 2 macbooks in my house and would like to put my music and movies onto one hardrive and share that between both laptops & TV. My question is do you need to have the Leapord Server software to do what you do? Also are you able to access your music and media that’s on your mac mini & hard drive on your laptop when you are in your house? That’s what I want to do. Thoughts? Thanks for your time man.
Point 1) I think the end of the post concerning the MIni would be a great place for a comment like this. But since its here and not there I’ll reply and then 2 weeks from now these both go bye-bye.
To answer your question: Anything through iTunes can be shared over Bonjour on your local network pending you have allowed “local” sharing inside of iTunes. To enable this go into your Preferences in iTunes and select the “Sharing” category. Make sure that “Look for shared libraries” and “Share my library on my local network” are selected.
You will then be able to see shared media inside of iTunes and Front Row.
While I have used this method in the past, I don’t use it anymore as I have set up a linux server that runs all of my TimeMachine backups over wifi for all my computers. I have set up a SMB share on it and use PLEX (a port of XBMC) to view all of it. PLEX also allows you to use FTP’s as share points so you don’t have to use SMB if you don’t want to.

I hope that helps.
